Video: How to Create Viral Pins

Looking to increase website traffic to your blog business? Of all the social media outlets, Pinterest has been my number one source of website traffic.

On my best month, Not A Bond Girl reached 1.5 million monthly views just through Pinterest alone. And I did not even spend a single penny on Pinterest ads or pay to use a content scheduler!

Through trial and error, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to use Pinterest to increase website traffic month after month. Allow me to share my top five lessons learned.

Pinterest is powerful tool for free organic search traffic for your blog business.

I’ve tried Facebook ads and Instagram to bring in traffic. But I soon learned that Facebook ads and Instagram was not bringing in sales conversions. Just more likes and follows.

Before we get into the weeds, let’s make sure we have the basics down first.

If you’re just getting started on Pinterest, be sure to create a Pinterest business account. You can also convert a personal account to a business account.

For SEO purposes, it’s also key to write a short description of your business with at least a couple of keywords for your blog topics.

I like to use the Pinterest search feature to search for popular topics in my niche. Then I follow at least 10 boards or people relating to these topics.

Remember that Pinterest is a search engine. So engaging and properly keyworded content drives website traffic to your blog, regardless of followers.

Now that you have the foundation set, let’s get into the details on how to drive thousands of viewers to your website!

1. Create 5-10 boards on your popular blog topics using keywords.

Remember, it’s important to have a niche. "The Riches are in the Niches"!

2. Pin at least 5 pins from your smart feed to your boards.

Pinterest algorithms rewards active pinners. But not just pinners who pin only their content! So if you are being spammy, give it a rest and start pinning other people’s content.

3. Test out different pins for your best blog posts.

Create at least two pins for your top blog posts to test out different titles, colors, and images. Sometimes a font size can make a big difference in the number of repins!

In your Pinterest stats, see which pin does better by the end of two weeks. Continue to repin the "better" pin in future months to come.

4. No need to focus on followers.

Instead, focus on quality content. Your content will get you far as Pinterest rewards content creators. Pinterest algorithms continue to change to reward quality content so followers do not matter as much when it comes to impressions.

5. Join group boards in your niche to increase your reach.

Be selective when it comes to joining group boards. A group board with thousands of followers and hundreds of contributors but not in your niche won’t bring as much website traffic as a group board half the size that’s in your niche.

It’s tempting to join those huge group boards but in the end, I spend a lot of time and energy getting little traffic. So be sure to select group boards to join that are in your niche.
