Videos: Boost Your SEO via Metadata

Good SEO can make a significant difference in generating leads and sales for a website. So how does metadata help boost your website SEO?

First, what exactly is metadata?

SEO metadata is what appears on search engine result pages (SERP) when a website comes up for certain queries.

It includes the title of the page and its metadescription, which is the descriptive text below the title.

Google doesn't use the description meta tag in ranking.

But it still shows up in search engine results. So, it's worthwhile to include a description tag, even if it doesn't affect rankings.

Meta descriptions may affect SEO.

However, since metadescriptions show in the search engine results, they can affect CTRs (click through rates). CTRs are linked to SEO & rankings.

Accordingly, meta descriptions might have an impact on SEO.

Nearly all metadata is invisible to visitors.

Metadata works behind the scenes in the HTML of web pages.

The metadata we use most for SEO speaks to search engines directly. Basically, it communicates important information or requests specific action.

What about meta keywords?

The meta keywords tag is where you put all of the keywords you use in your site.

The importance of metatags is that the search engines read them in order to compare if these keywords and the description are related with the visible content.

A search engine's job is to crawl a web page and interpret its relevancy to a given search query.

While keywords matching within body content and backlinks to the page play a large role in determining ranking, metadata says more about the purpose of a page.

So how long can it take for SEO to work?

SEO can provide great results. But only with the right time investment.

There are so many factors to consider when trying to figure out how much time SEO will take to be successful. Websites typically can see results in 4-6 months.

SEO results grow over time.

The traction you're getting at 6 months typically is less than what you should be experiencing at 12 months. So don't give up!

It just takes time for SEO to kick in. Quality content, clean code, and a good URL structure helps boost your SEO too.

Bottom line: It's SEO best practice to include metadata.
